Abstract

ABSTRACT: Drought is a natural disaster, which can cause great damage in the economic and social spheres. In Brazil, it mainly affects the semi-arid region of the Northeast, damaging agricultural and livestock activities, causing problems such as malnutrition, hunger, death and exodus. This study aimed to analyze the influence of the last drought recorded between the years 2012 and 2015 in the production of common beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) in the municipality of São João / Pernambuco, located in the semi-arid region of Northeast Brazil. An exploratory survey was carried out, from 2007 to 2017, related to rainfall and bean productivity, using APAC, IPA and IBGE databases. From the data obtained, it was possible to verify that the drought affected considerably the agricultural activity related to the bean culture, which in the great majority, is carried out under rainfed conditions, that is, it depends exclusively on the rainwater.
