Abstract

ABSTRACT: Wasps are natural regulating insects of several pests in agricultural crops, having biological role as important bioindicators of the quality of the environment. The objective was to know populations of solitary wasps in different artificial devices in polyculture in Agreste region of the State of Alagoas. The study focused on three areas: Area I - Planting of fruit and tobacco cultivation (Craíbas – AL); Area II - Seedling nursery; Area III - Planting of fruit trees, cultivation of tobacco and secondary forest (capoeira). Were installed 45 traps (15 traps / Area) distributed in different devices and diameters: ‘Kraft’ paper (5, 7, 9 and 10 mm); ‘Black cardboard’ paper (9 mm) and Bamboo (3 mm). The samples were sent to the Biology Laboratory of UFAL / Campus de Arapiraca – AL for the quantification and identification of the material. A total of 29 occupied nests (Ni = 105 individuals) were registered and with a high occupation rate for area III (1.89%; Ni = 17), registering only two species of wasps: Trypoxylon sp (74.3%; Ni = 78) of the family Crabonidae and Pachodynerus cf. serrulatus (25.7%; Ni = 27), revealing greater preference for nesting in trap-nests 'kraft' paper in diameters 5 and 7 mm, respectively. In the analysis of the chi-square test (χ2) with an existing association between the number of occupied nests and nesting rate for the three areas studied, it showed a highly significant difference (<0.0001) in area III, demonstrating greater availability of resources for the foraging of species. On the other hand, the reduced number of wasp species in the samplings may be related to the impact of chemical pesticides and agricultural practices, harming the nesting sites, in addition to harming other local pollinators. This information is relevant, and a warning to local producers with the moderate use of pesticides, making them aware of conservation and environmental quality in the areas.
