Abstract

ABSTRACT: Inventory the slopes in urban areas is not an easy task. This phenomenology requires that the researcher has techniques to characterize conditions such as the topography, geology and climatology of the area in question. Disasters can be caused by natural phenomena associated, at first, with more global events such as earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions and hurricanes, but they can also occur due to more localized processes and phenomena, such as floods, drought / drought, mass movements, among others. These processes can also be associated with or induced by human activities, mainly due to disorderly occupation. Thus, this research has as goal to analyze two risk areas (Rua Prado Omena and Bairro Alto São Simeão) in the municipality of Branquinha, Alagoas, Brazil. The analyzed areas constantly undergo sliding processes. During the rainy season, which runs from late April to early September, landslides are explicit and dangerous. As a methodology, questionnaires were applied and interviews were conducted with 35 families. The data from the questionnaires, when tabulated, showed that the population faces adverse conditions, mainly because it does not have adequate infrastructure, and there is a lack of technical professionals in municipal offices, mainly in the Civil Defense. Residents report that landslides cause unpleasant situations ranging from blocking traffic routes to burying houses. In addition, they cause several environmental damages, altering the urban landscape, making it more vulnerable to new occurrences.
