Abstract

ABSTRACT: The bagworm Oiketicus kirbyi (Guilding, 1827) (Lepidoptera: Psychidae) is a poliphagous insect that damages several plant species of ecomonic importance. The pest was found infesting the ornamental plant Ixora coccinea L. (Rubiaceae) for the first time in Brazil, in the state of Alagoas, Northeastern region of the country. The found is of great importance for pest management in other crops that are also attacked by O. kirbyi. An updated list of the correct taxa of the insect's host plant species is also provided.
