Abstract

ABSTRACT: Cosmopolites sordidus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), popularly known as banana borer, is considered a key pest of banana tree (Musa spp.), and occurs in all regions of Brazil. Damage can occur in both pseudostem and rhizome plant, reducing production by up to 90%. For their control, the use of insecticides and attractive bait from pseudostem pieces is indicated, however, these methods have shown limited efficacy. The use of semiochemicals has been shown to be an efficient way to control pest species within Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Studies indicate that α-copaene has been effective as an attraction to some beetles and other insects, either alone or in admixture. Therefore, this paper aims to identify in the literature the use of α-copaene as an alternative for monitoring and / or control of C. sordidus.
